Energy Companies renew rugby club deal

Cuadrilla and Centrica have teamed up with Fylde Rugby Club for a fourth successive season. The two energy companies will once again be among the club’s main sponsors for the new 2017-18 National One League campaign, which kicked off against Cambridge on Saturday.

Cuadrilla, who are at the forefront of shale gas exploration on the Fylde Coast, are displaying their ‘Putting Lancashire First’ logo on the first team shirts.

The agreement also means that the Lancashire shale gas exploration partners are displayed in signage around The Woodlands ground, including the Blackpool Road entrance and clubhouse as well as pitch-side hoarding.

Cuadrilla Chief Executive, Francis Egan said: “We are proud to continue our sponsorship of Fylde Rugby Club which is an important part of the local community, and a key provider of sports development for all ages.  We will be following the first team’s progress throughout the coming season and wish the club all the best.”

Centrica’s UK Shale Manager, Martin York added: “We are pleased to continue our sponsorship of Fylde rugby, in the knowledge that it helps benefit all sections of the club from the first XV to the development of the junior teams.”

Fylde RU Commercial Manager, Richard Kernot said: We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Cuadrilla and Centrica over the years and long may it continue.

“Success for Fylde Rugby Club, and indeed the majority of rugby clubs, is not measured purely by results on the pitch. Success also needs to be measured by commercial backing. We have been working with Cuadrilla and Centrica for a number of years now and this announcement cements that relationship for the benefit of both parties.

“As a National One League Rugby Club, sponsorship such as this is vital to the on-going development of Fylde and our status as one of the leading clubs in the North West of England.”
