Local Recruiters Take on the Alps for Charity

Two recruiters are set take on a mountainous challenge when they cycle the Alps in a bid to raise money for local charities.

Michelle & Katie Mellor, Directors of Accrington based recruitment firm, Cummins Mellor, aim to raise £3,000 for Blackburn Youth Zone’s cycle hub, as well as Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 20th anniversary appeal.

The mother and daughter team who also work together in the award-winning family business are cycling a 600-mile route through the French Alps, climbing over 56,600 feet with a 25-strong team of cyclists.

The six-day challenge from September 1st to 6th involves riding through five Alpine passes to Grenoble and on to the formidable Alpe d’Huez, before reaching the Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux, finally completing the ride by cycling along the Gorges Du Nesque route.

Michelle who lives in Blackburn said “It’s been a very active 8 months, training every weekend by cycling the hills of Lancashire and beyond to ensure fitness for the challenge.

I am sure it will be worth it, I can’t think of two better charities to represent, Blackburn Youth Zone literally transforms young people’s lives in the town and to do it on the 20th anniversary appeal of Rosemere Cancer Foundation is a fitting tribute to the amazing work they continue to do supporting the people across Lancashire and Cumbria.

We just have to do it now, we couldn’t have done any more training. The proof will be in the pudding. One thing is for sure, we will be giving it our very best shot”
