On 8th July at the Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, a special charity ball will take place to raise much needed funds for Blackpool Paediatric Unit & DKMS – We Delete Blood Cancer.
Chris Taplin from RTDCreative met Steph Holmes & Louise Paramel, Practice Development Sisters on the Children’s Ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, at a recent Shout business networking meeting. The two nurses had attended the meeting to promote the ball and make local businesses aware of the charities they support. After hearing of the important work they do, Chris was keen to help.
Chris commented, “It’s not always possible to support every charity or fund raising event you hear about, however, after listening to Steph and Louise talk about their experiences within the paediatric unit at the hospital, and the passion they showed, I felt I wanted to do something to help.”
Remembering an experience he’d rather not repeat, Chris continued, “My daughter spent three nights on the ward a few years back and as a parent it was incredibly frightening. However, the staff were all really supportive and this went a long way to reassure us; they deserve all the support as they can get.”
Based in Thornton, RTDCreative are a local graphic and web design company and Chris gave a lot of thought as to the best practical way he could help. He decided the best way would be to use RTDCreative’s design flair to help promote the event so he offered to design the event programme.
Steph and Louise said, “We want the night to be great fun as well as successful and obviously we want to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities. We have both worked on the children’s unit at Blackpool for many years and during this time we’ve seen many children and their families go through some really challenging times in relation to many conditions but especially blood cancers. Over the years, we’ve seen all the staff work incredibly hard to support the families through these tough times. The money we raise will go to improving the care we can give to the children and their families but it will also increase the opportunities for staff development.
In addition, a portion of the money raised will go to the DKMS – We Delete Blood Cancer charity, as this charity is very close to our hearts and we want to support them as much as we can.”
They continued, “We are really grateful to all the supporters of the event and thank RTDCreative for designing the programme for us”.
RTDCreative have helped numerous charities over the years, including building a website for The Swallows Head & Neck Cancer charity, producing raffle tickets for fundraisers for Brian House and Trinity Hospice and many more.
