Haworths Chartered Accountants advises on six-figure acquisition

Accrington-headquartered Haworths Chartered Accountants has advised Yorkshire-based Northern Medical Ultrasound (NMU) on a six-figure acquisition.

NMU was founded in March 2012 and is run by two advanced practitioner sonographers, Sarah Boland and Joanne Holgate. The firm provides high quality ultrasound staff to the NHS, specialising in pregnancy, women and men’s scans as well as corporate screening services.

Having worked in partnership with Yorkshire Health Solutions, which runs twelve clinical commissioning groups and provides ultrasound and radiology services for NHS and private patients in the North of England, NMU decided to purchase the business when it was put up for sale.

The six figure transaction is part of a planned expansion for NMU to move across the M62 corridor and deliver quality services within more communities in the North West. The company currently employs 88 people but in line with the acquisition staff numbers are expected to surpass 100 in the near future.

Joanne Holgate, director at Northern Medical Ultrasound, said: “It made perfect sense to buy Yorkshire Health Solutions as we’ve worked with the company for a long time and through our partnership have contributed to the business’ growth. We’ve been mainly operating in Yorkshire but knowing that patients feel more comfortable when healthcare is available in their community, we realise that it’s a much needed service beyond the region.”

To make sure the transaction went smoothly, NMU was advised by Mark Schofield, director at Haworths Chartered Accountants. He said: “Joanne and Sarah have a clear vision for their business and it was great to support them in what is a very exciting time for Northern Medical Ultrasound. I’m sure we’ll see the company continue going from strength to strength and deliver specialist services to more and more people in the coming years.”

Joanne added: “Mark and the team at Haworths were exceptional; they looked at all the numbers and guided us through the entire process from start to finish.”
