Building society staff are off colour for Rosemere fundraiser

Staff at the Preston branch of Furness Building Society looked a bit off colour when they held a fundraising day for Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.

For the team wore their usual navy uniforms with red shirts instead of white, added red scarves and other red accessories, including red shoes, for a wear it red for Rosemere day!

They also held a cake sale, sold the charity’s merchandise and put its collection tins on counters to bring in £146.42 for the appeal, which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Through its 20 Years Anniversary Appeal, which has a £1.5 million target, Rosemere Cancer Foundation has committed to bringing the world’s most advanced robotic surgical system to the centre.

It is also raising money to create a state-of-the-art research facility at the centre to enable more patients to participate in clinical trials. Taking part in a trial can give patients access to the newest medicines and therapies being researched and developed for the future – treatment they wouldn’t otherwise be able to have.

In addition, the appeal is raising money to redevelop Rosemere Cancer Centre’s in-patient Ribblesdale Ward. It is set to be transformed from a traditional Florence Nightingale style ward into a modern, home from home.

Besides its fundraising day, Furness Building Society supports Rosemere Cancer Foundation through its affinity account, which can be opened at any of its branches or agencies or by calling Furness Direct on 0800 220 568.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation is one of a number of good causes customers can choose to support through opening an affinity account, with the building society making a donation from its own funds based on customers’ balances.

Last year, through the Rosemere Cancer Foundation affinity account, supporters helped to achieve a £27,320.48 donation.  In the eight years the building society has operated the savings account, it has given a whopping £225,320.52 to the charity.

Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “It was great to see staff looking a bit off colour! It certainly provoked a reaction from customers. A wear it red for Rosemere day is a simple and fun way for businesses to support us and we are very grateful to Furness Building Society for all the support it gives us.”
