Chorley businesses host first Fiver Fest

PEOPLE choosing to ‘shop local’ in Chorley town centre over the next fortnight will get some fantastic offers as the town centre hosts its first ‘Fiver Fest’.

Independent businesses signed up to the new Totally Locally campaign will be offering an exclusive £5 discount to all their customers until 5 November.

It is the first of many events being planned to encourage people to support local traders as the campaign has already started to bring new shoppers into the town.

Diane Gunning, who runs ebb & flo bookshop, and is part of the team organising the event, said: “We’re getting really good feedback about the Totally Locally campaign and I know from speaking to other traders it is attracting people into Chorley.

“The idea behind the Fiver Fest is to encourage people to do their shopping in Chorley to see what fantastic independent shops and businesses we have and enjoy some great bargains.

“It also reiterates the point that if every adult in Chorley spends just £5 per week in the local independent shops, instead of online or at the supermarkets, it would be worth an extra £29 million per year going into the local economy.”

The offers cover everything ranging from cakes to cocktails and books to breakfasts. Some businesses will be offering a 5 per cent discount and others will be offering a selection of items at a reduced price of £5.

The Totally Locally campaign was launched at the start of October and you can already see posters and banners across the town centre.

“We’re really looking forward to the next couple of weeks and we hope to see lots of new faces in our shops,” said Diane.

“As independent traders we offer a friendly and personal approach to your shopping and there is such a good variety of shops in Chorley you can get pretty much everything you need in the town centre.

“Look out for posters in the windows of the shops taking part and you can see all the details on the ‘Totally Locally Chorley’ Facebook page.

The Fiver Fest will run from Saturday 22 October until Saturday 5 November.
